Should have adverb and adjective, then split translations. Mglovesfun (talk) 15:26, 18 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

stark naked

[edit]

Is this SOP? In addition to the applicable sense, [[stark]] even has a usage note specifically discussing its use in collocations like stark naked and stark raving mad. - -sche (discuss) 21:48, 19 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Delete, I think. A rationale for keeping would be that the two common expressions using stark#Adverb as an intensifier are the only two possible for most speakers of modern English. I don't think the facts quite support that, but collocations like stark blind|deaf|dumb|stupid are not very common in current English. Synonyms for naked and crazy can be found. Interestingly stark raving has a fairly high mutual information score. Not all writer seem sure of the grammar: one can find "stark-raving", "stark, raving", as well as "stark raving", the last of which seems correct to me, fitting stark as an adverb.
"Stark raving nude" is an interesting easily attestable collocation. DCDuring TALK 02:08, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Delete per nom, as SOP. This sense of starkness may be underused generally, but adjectives modifying nakedness are abundant. bd2412 T 11:28, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
