@Fish bowl:, not directly. It's because sauce and source are homophones in most non-rhotic accents of English, which is also the reason why the Japanese loanwords are homophones. —Mahāgaja · talk 20:13, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

To be a bit pedantic, they aren't homophonous in dialects without the horse-hoarse merger (or in dialects where EModE /uːr/ remains unlowered, but most of those also lack horse-hoarse). Not that that really matters, since no national English dialect has both a horse-hoarse distinction and non-rhoticity (though Northern England English often does).
