Pronunciation

[edit]

I think Etymology2 should be stressed on first syllable REsearchship. Please inform the audio creator if you want it recorded. P. Sovjunk (talk) 20:16, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@P. Sovjunk: hmmm. Maybe raise this for discussion at the Tea Room. — Sgconlaw (talk) 21:58, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's like WARship or FLAgship or AIRship, I guess. P. Sovjunk (talk) 22:02, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
To complicate things, the noun "research" may be stressed on either syllable. 2A00:23C5:FE1C:3701:F4A2:444C:8F54:4AC2 22:03, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@P. Sovjunk: yes, as the IP (Equinox?) points out—and as indicated in the entry—research can be stressed either on the first or second syllable, so it is possible that research ship/researchship is either "reSEARCH ship" or "REsearch ship". I was of the view, though, that it is "research SHIP". I could be wrong; I'll raise it at the Beer Parlour. — Sgconlaw (talk) 22:11, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The alternative form, "research-ship" was added by an unregistered user. I can find no evidence for it. Kiwima (talk) 00:59, 3 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Kiwima: let’s remove it, then. — Sgconlaw (talk) 04:17, 3 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
