Proper and suitable

What's the difference (subtle I know) between proper and suitable--81.43.215.113 13:32, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Suitable = fits the purpose; good enough; will do the job. Proper = strictly correct; the right one to use. Equinox ◑ 10:47, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

Noun Example

Is this an example for the noun use case?
Work on symbolic/knowledge-based learning did continue within AI, leading to inductive logic programming, but the more statistical line of research was now outside the field of AI proper, in pattern recognition and information retrieval.
