Etymology

@TagaSanPedroAko: My sources don't say anything. It's better if we don't guess these things, because we might get it wrong, at best we can definitely say they're related, but it's also possible that Malay borrowed from Tagalog (though unlikely) or there's a third language that both Malay and Tagalog borrowed from.
