Why /eɪ/ in the US pronunciation of 'drank'? That's the sound of wraith /ɹeɪθ/ or whale /weɪl/...

Well, it's not marked as a regional variation; it's marked as US which surely should mean that it is the form used most commonly in the US. I actually live in the southeastern USA and I'm familiar with the regional dialects, but have never heard this pronunciation. I suspect it is a mis-coding by someone unfamiliar with IPA. dɹæŋk is a perfectly good broad transcription for both UK and US. Unless you can find a documented use of this dɹeɪŋk variation, I still argue it should be removed. Or if not removed, then at least tagged by whoever contributed it with whichever specific regional variation they think it may be.

(I would be a lot more sympathetic to someone arguing over /æ/ vs /ɒ:/ as a UK/US variation, but /eɪ/ is just outwith the bounds of reasonable variation) — This unsigned comment was added by 70.116.98.136 (talk).

I traced back the edit and it turns out the user who added it is from Hawai’i. Maybe it is used there?
