Add topicMore accurately, a "compadre" means something akin to co-father. As in your best friend becomes your compadre/comadre once you both have children. In some hispanic countries it's a bit of a small ceremony, patting your friend in the back, buying beers/cigars and "officially" annointing him your "compadre."
