I heard that bison is invariable in plural. can anybody confirm ?
- It may or may not be invariable, depending on the writer. It was probably taken as invariable because it was a latin word, whose plural would be bisontes, and English-speaker have this thing for the foreign plurals. Circeus 19:18, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
- IMO, bison is invariable in plural. I don’t ever recall seeing "some bisons" writing. —Stephen 13:34, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
- It's invariable because animals, especially herd animals, are commonly invariable in English. It has nothing to do with the foreign origin.
