Regarding the seemingly provisional nature of this entry I would say that while "keep" is an acceptable translation, "store" or "hold" is a more common use for it.

No, "behalten" means "to keep", "to continue to have". It might be able to mean "store" or "hold" in some contexts, but these are quite uncommon uses.
