Add topicCan somebody provide examples for the second chemistry sense?
[edit]I just added examples for senses of allo- except for the second chemistry sense, because I (a non-chemist) couldn't identify any examples of "a diastereomer having the same configuration on four neighboring chiral carbon atoms as carbohydrate allose." - There's a good chance some of what I categorized as just isometric have this property but I lack the subject matter expertise to figure it out. Because none of the chemistry texts I saw while looking gave any indication that this second sense exists I'd like some confirmation it's a thing. Thanks! Intersets (talk) 23:47, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
Uncategorized derived words
[edit]I spent a bit of time categorizing all the derived words (at least those in the Category) by sense and refining the senses as I did so. There were a few derived words I wasn't sure what to do with and so did not categorize:
- allopathy 1 (countable) A conventional Western medical method or treatment. -- This one confused me because allo- normally means UNconventional?
- allophycocyanin 0 (biochemistry) Any of a group of accessory pigments to chlorophyll -- here I just don't have enough biochem knowledge
- allopreening 1 The mutual preening of two birds -- the mutuality is what threw me off here, I categorized the other sense of allopreening where it isn't mutual. I didn't see any other derived words/senses that had mutuality.
- allotope 0 A region of an antibody with a non-varying structure. -- another potential misnomer? I would expect it to have a varying structure?
- allozyme 0 (genetics, biochemistry) Either form of an enzyme specified by an allelic gene. -- lacking subject matter expertise
I also had two words with a sense of "opposite" that I didn't feel confident enough about making a sense of "opposite" of its own - I like there for there to be at least three examples of a category for me to define it as its own sense.
- allopathy 0 (uncountable, originally) A system of heroic medicine that treats symptoms with substances that produce the opposite effect.
- allosexual 1 (LGBT, uncommon, chiefly Canada) LGB; queer; non-heterosexual.
If other people feel there's enough basis to add a sense of "opposite" I'm receptive, just didn't feel so confident to do it solo. Intersets (talk) 00:07, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
