Is the Old Persian attested? No one mentions it. --Vahag (talk) 22:06, 17 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

[edit]

On wikipedia it mentions this as a borrowing from a lost BMAC language, but I can't tell how reliable that is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substrata_in_the_Vedic_language#Lost_donor_languages

Other places link the Sanskrit with nagna + hve "naked call" (https://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/nagnahu E. nagna naked, and hve to call, affix kvip, what is called for by the bare-faced, shameless, &c.) But that feels like a folk etymology to me Zeimusu (talk) 08:23, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
