@Mnemosientje: I guess it's from the thematic vowel -ai- (compare the 2nd and 3rd person singular and 2nd person plural endings at {{gem-conj-wk3-ja}}) + *-niz, but I don't know whether that vowel combined with that suffix already in Proto-Germanic or only in Gothic. —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 13:49, 7 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
