- Perhaps it is cognate with MP. -āwand (via a new Iranian language): hunar "virtue, skill", hunarāwand "skilled, virtuous". Less likely another variant of MIr. gōn (whence գույն) with regular g > y, w; compare MP. -yōn.--Calak (talk) 17:38, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
- The second is very appealing so that Ačaṙyan too considers it. -ավուն (-avun) is very common with colour names, like Iranian *gauna-, and forms comparatives like -ագոյն (-agoyn), but the problem is the g > v change is unknown within Armenian. Are you saying -VgV- could give -w- in Iranian? ESIJA under *gauna- does not have any examples, except perhaps Khotanese hvū ‘having good colour’. --Vahag (talk) 17:24, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
