English

@LunaEatsTuna: I wonder if this should be under an English heading by analogy with 🗑️🔥 and 🤡🌏. Einstein2 (talk) 20:14, 2 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Einstein2 I usually check Twitter for emoji entries since its outreach is so global. There seems to be a lot of usage for this in both English and Spanish. No idea why it is only those two, but I did scroll down about 300 tweets to 4H ago and they were all in either English or Spanish, i.e. [1]. So, I suppose it is translingual? @LunaEatsTuna: That's interesting. I can find occasional uses in other languages ([2], [3]). Is this a visual pun for spitting fire (as suggested by the def) or just a combination of the symbolic meaning of the two emoji? In the first case, I would call it English (with a possible "borrowing" into Spanish), while the second option indeed favors a Translingual section. In any case, perhaps the definition could be expanded with non-glosses explaining its possible senses. (Currently I'm not entirely sure about the range of its usage either.) @Einstein2 It might honestly be their symbolic meanings, judging by its existence in other languages. Regarding its meaning, I think the fourth sense of spitting fire, "to speak with vehemence", sounds about right from the uses I am seeing-? If you so wish, you could change the current def to this fourth sense to make it clearer. I have not really found any other senses for this emoji combination yet. @LunaEatsTuna: thanks, I tried to formulate a somewhat more informative definition. Einstein2 (talk) 19:14, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oo much better! Love that emphasis line too, very informative. 😍 LunaEatsTuna (talk) 19:18, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
