How is Parthian 𐭀𐭎𐭅𐭓𐭎𐭕𐭍 (ʾswrstn) transliterated? Parthian is the more probable source of Old Armenian Ասորեստան (Asorestan). --Vahag (talk) 12:59, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

It is spelled ʾswrstn and may be transliterated in many ways, but with some comparison with the Armenian words, it must be Asōrestān, too (I hesitated to add it because ʾswr is commonly transliterated as Asūr as in the title of the Parthian work Draxt [ī] Asūrīk, but now I think it must be ō, since we have o in Armenian words, especially in Ասորիք - if it is from Iranian then it must be Parthian, since we have final k) --Z 13:32, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Old Armenian Ասորի-ք (Asori-kʻ, “Syria”) is an inner-Armenian formation from ասորի (asori, “Syrian”). The latter is from Iranian, according to Iranica. --Vahag (talk) 14:15, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
