Etymology

[edit]

Isn't this derived from the causative of 닫다 (tat-, "to run"), which Starostin associated with Tungus-Manchu *tut[a]- (бежать - to run), Japanese 漂う [ただよう] (плавать - to float) (Starostin et al., 2003, pg. 1466)? Hbrug 00:32, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Judging from the Middle Korean form, I think the etymology is misplaced, so I've moved it to 닫다#Etymology 2. Hbrug 00:47, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Needs a link to 달다, in its "hang, hoist, attach ..." sense. Today I don't know how to make a Related Terms entry. W3steve (talk) 04:07, 10 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Needs two etymologies?

[edit]

Today there is only one etymology, but it seems to me that there are two words here:

  1. to run, to move quickly (<< 닫다 run)
  2. to hang, weigh (<< 달다)

Alas, I don’t know enough to make the changes.
