Bengali

[edit]

@Tuahtme The Bengali হাওর haor is not ‘descended’ from this word by any means, they are mere cognates or even dare I say the opposite is true. It is impossible for the Bengali to be from this word since this does not even contain a /h/ phoneme as the Bengali word does. সায়র śaẏôr and হাওর haor are doublets in Bengali, the former being a Western/Rāḍhī descendant of सागर sāgara and the latter being an Eastern/Vaṅgīya descendant of the same Sanskrit word, but both Bengali. Please stop undoing my edit or at least edit to help properly represent this correct information, as both words are in the Bangla Academy dictionary.—Sylotoid (talk) 14:11, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I question the labeling of this word হাওর haor as 'Bengali'. The recognized Bengali word is the original version in the entry - সায়র shaor. To remove সায়র shaor is to vandalize the entry. {{}}
