Singapore Hokkien

[edit]

@Justinrleung The Singapore Hokkien dictionary gives "beh8-5 ia3", so I encoded it like this. What do you think? Or should we maintain it as "be̍h-á"? Mar vin kaiser (talk) 10:32, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser: It should just be á. The /i/ gets added when there is a /i/ or /e/ in front of the suffix. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 15:10, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Yeah, I know. But in this case, there's a glottal stop before the suffix. So it shouldn't become that diphthong, but that's how it's transcribed in the Singapore Hokkien dictionary. Do you think it's just a typo? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 15:28, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser: Does a glottal stop usually block that /i/ insertion? It doesn't seem like it, because 笠仔 is also lueh(leh)8-5 ia3. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 15:38, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Yeah, I guess it does happen in Zhangzhou Hokkien, doesn't happen in more Quanzhou-leaning dialects, I think. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 15:55, 12 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
