Mandarin pronunciation tags for the second etymology
[edit]@Wyang, Tooironic, could you check the tags for the second etymology? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 15:56, 16 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Justinrleung I like how you separated 馬虎. Do you have a source for hu3 in Mainland for this sense? Wyang (talk) 06:48, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang It comes from 兩岸詞典, but it doesn't seem right. That's why I asked. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 14:06, 17 January 2017 (UTC)
- Oh thanks, I see. I wouldn't trust that page for the reading- I think the Mainland reading should be hu. Wyang (talk) 06:13, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Wyang: what about in 馬馬虎虎? Would it be pronounced as hǔ or hū? @Tooironic, what does 现代汉语规范词典 have to say about this? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 06:51, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- The current splitting of the readings looks accurate to me. The 现代汉语规范词典 only has hu3 (tiger) and hu4 (as in 虎不拉) however. ---> Tooironic (talk) 06:53, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Tooironic: Does it have 馬馬虎虎? If so, does it use hǔ or hū? — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 06:55, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
- It reads: 马马虎虎 mǎmǎ-hǔhǔ. 这里的“虎虎”口语中也读 hūhū。---> Tooironic (talk) 07:04, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

- I think 馬馬虎虎 should be ma3 ma3 hu hu. This is very hard to distinguish from ma3 ma3 hu1 hu1, however. Wyang (talk) 06:57, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
