Dubious Japanese?

[edit]

@Lugria, you added some content, actually re-adding the kun'yomi that I had previously removed.

  • Can you confirm this character in actual use with the reading (あら) (arau)? google:"洮う" only nets me three hits, all scannos. google:"洮わ" gets zero, and google:"洮い" produces five hits: two scannos, an explication of Chinese poetry, and two bogus hits from a non-existent website that appears to be in Chinese anyway.
  • Likewise, can you confirm either compound 洮汰 or 洮米 in use in Japanese texts as Japanese words? I've only found 洮汰 in the 漢和大辞典 entry here in a quote from the 後漢, which is a Chinese text. I can't find 洮米 anywhere at all.

If we cannot confirm actual use of this character in these words in Japanese texts, we must discount their listing in 漢字源, as "dictionary-only" terms. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 01:06, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • あら-う: I'm sorry for not checking your removing it. I'll re-remove it immediately.
  • 洮汰, 洮米: The both compounds are listed in 漢字源, but I'm not sure if they are actually used in Japanese.
Regarding to "dictionary-only", what is the criterion for judging it? It may be a rare term or a technical term etc. Please let me know your opinion. Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 01:55, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Lugria, thank you for the reply. Re: "dictionary-only", if we can't find any references that include examples of use in Japanese, and if we can't find any usage examples ourselves, that would presumably fail our criteria for inclusion, particularly the WT:ATTEST section. HTH! ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 04:49, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I grasped the criteria. Should we delete the entries 洮汰#Japanese and 洮米? Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 12:03, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Lugria: I've done a bit more searching. google books:"洮汰"+"は" (adding the は to filter for Japanese texts) does seem to find enough to meet CFI. google books:"洮米"+"は" does not, however -- only 7 hits, which appear to be either Chinese or scannos. From that, I'd suggest keeping 洮汰 and deleting 洮米. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 20:11, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your searching. I accepted your suggestion and added {{rfd}} to 洮米. Lugriaルグリア [会話貢献] 20:26, 21 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
