Talk:欧羅巴

@Eirikr Hi. I wonder what your edit summary means. The Chinese spelling for this term is 歐羅巴/欧罗巴 (Ōuluóbā). The spelling 欧羅巴 would be an incorrect mixture of traditional and simplified forms. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 00:12, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
- I see less-common, but present, usage online for 欧羅巴 in Chinese: google:"欧羅巴是" OR "在欧羅巴". If this is a matter of Google "helping" by being loose about the search string, please clue me in -- I've bumped into a number of comments in other places that Google is increasingly trying to "help" by ignoring the old rule that quotes should mean that the user wants exact matches. That said, visiting a few of these pages directly does show instances of this spelling, in contexts that are definitely Chinese: 1, 2, etc. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 16:47, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Eirikr Thanks. I'm pretty sure it's a typo, conversion problem (not just from trad. to simp. but when using imperfect IME) or someone just copied the Japanese spelling, not knowing any better. 歐洲/欧洲 (Ōuzhōu) is much more common and literacy in traditional characters outside areas where traditional Chinese is standard is deteriorating. "欧 is only simplified and "羅" is only traditional character. On both sites, which are in simplified, both are used incorrectly. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 01:07, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
- Aha, good to know. Thank you for clarifying -- I'd noted the straight-through simplified spelling of 欧罗巴 (Ōuluóbā), but I wasn't sure if Chinese misspellings happen often enough to be considered entry-worthy. Cheers. ‑‑ Eiríkr Útlendi │Tala við mig 06:31, 27 August 2016 (UTC)
