[edit]@Tooironic Why did you label the sense "something to hold onto when climbing; handhold" as "chiefly Mandarin"? Dokurrat (talk) 12:16, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- This indeed requires verification by the 'lect editors here. Can anyone help? ---> Tooironic (talk) 13:03, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Tooironic: I'd say the entry before the version you submitted is fine, I didn't see problems. What were you concidering? Dokurrat (talk) 13:11, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Tooironic, Dokurrat: I've intentionally separated the pronunciations for the noun sense from the verb sense because I think bā is actually a different word from paa4 (which would correspond with pá in Mandarin). About the place name, other than the consideration of qingsheng, there was also a problem with whether it's bā or pá for 扒. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 22:51, 16 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. ---> Tooironic (talk) 06:17, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Tooironic, Justinrleung: I removed "chiefly" from "Mandarin", since I didn't see that sense used in non-Mandarin varieties. Dokurrat (talk) 06:44, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

- I did a cursory search for a written form of the MSM pinyin for the name of this village in a book about Jianli County, but I didn't find it. There are obviously reasonable assumptions and guesses that can be made- it's probably/obviously something like 'Batou'. But no matter what the editing here leads to in the end, I am not going to make any edits on this page regarding the pronunciation of the location name until I have what I consider to be specific, credible evidence of the pronunciation of the village name in a written form from a local source which is purporting to give the official Mainland Standard Mandarin pronunciation in Hanyu Pinyin; I want to try to be rigorous in this instance. I don't care what it says here until I stumble across that information. I may never find it because it's not a priority to me ATM: there are hundreds of thousands of Chinese minor geographical terms that with a simple once-over are perfect--- I just don't have the information to make this particular entry perfect ATM (IMO). There are many terms that I just skip over rather than add to avoid these types of problems. start simple --> slowly work through the hard stuff --Geographyinitiative (talk) 07:57, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
