Wu (Shanghai)

[edit]

@Atitarev I wonder if you remember the source you used when you created this entry. You added a Wu pronunciation for this and gave it a definition of "hand". Are you sure this is used in Shanghainese? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 04:44, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: I had a few sources available at that time but I don't remember, which one I used, sorry. Frank sent me a Shanghainese dictionary a while ago (using a dropbox), which I unfortunately lost when my computer got broken. I also have two small textbooks, I will check at home, if they have the word. Please take a look at this post as well. We may want an entry for 腳骨脚骨 (jiǎogǔ). --Anatoli T. @Atitarev: For Shanghainese, I've checked 上海话大词典 and 上海方言詞典 - both do not have this word. As for Ningbo dialect, AFAIK it refers to the arm rather than just the hand (unlike what the article above is saying). I'm not sure about 衢州话 (Quzhou, not Suzhou). — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:49, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Thanks, oops, Quzhou. 上海市区方言志 has a Mandarin translation 胳膊 (gēbo). A usage example in [1] shows that 手骨 (SH) = 手 (M): 手骨拿火烙一下。(被火烫了一下.)--Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:03, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: Are you still in contact with Frank? Could you please ask him to send you a copy of "上海市区方言志". It's not the same as the ones I linked to. It's pretty good. I'm not sure I will work extensively on Shanghainese. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:06, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Atitarev: I'm still in contact with him. Anyhow, I already have a copy of 上海市区方言志; 手骨's not in there either. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:11, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Atitarev: Oh, I missed the links above. The first one (not 上海市区方言志, but 汉语方言学) is just giving examples of dialectal terms for 胳膊 (arm), one of which is 手骨 - this is already dealt with in the entry and in the dialectal table. The second one (动词谓语句) is not Shanghainese, but Liancheng Hakka, which I was aware of but haven't put in the entry until just now. There doesn't seem to be evidence of "hand" used for Shanghainese. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 06:20, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: My apologies and thank you. Now I am wondering where I got it from. I will let you know if I find it. It's possible that I mixed up "hand" and "arm" senses back in 2017.--Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 06:27, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
