Support for 'v' in Mandarin in Module:cmn-pron

Hi, I don't think we should support v in Mandarin. It's not used in Standard Chinese or Beijing Mandarin. Pinging @Wyang, Atitarev, Suzukaze-c as well. -- ‎Justinrleung

In Beijing and Northern Mandarin in general, [v] ~ [ʋ] is a common allophone of the /w/ initial when it is followed by non-labial vowels. This is not indicated in Mandarin IPA, as we do not currently indicate phonemic IPA. Zhuyin ㄪ was not designed for Mandarin, and I don't think it's suitable here. I think 大V should be dà-wī. Yeah, if dà-wī is not supported, dà-wēi is also a good option. There used to be an article on the Chinese Wikipedia listing the common Chinese pronunciations of English letters; it's been deleted but it has been archived here. Wyang (talk) 04:17, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
