Georgian word for Chechen person is ჩეჩენი (checheni), not ჩაჩანი (chachani) Reordcraeft (talk) 13:46, 27 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Reordcraeft: Hi. Various forms of ჩაჩანი (čačani) seem attestable and also know "a" instead of "e" is present in some languages. Any chance it is an alternative (older or regional) form, not an incorrect form of ჩეჩენი (čečeni)?

I'm not entirely sure if ჩაჩანი (čačani) is an older/historical form of the word or not, but it might be the case. I simply wanted to underline that the modern mainstream, literary word for this ethnicity was ჩეჩენი (čečeni) instead. You aren't wrong to note that this alternative form is also attested and it's possible to keep the entry while noting that it's a variation, perhaps also adding usage notes section for additional information. P.S. ჩაჩანი (čačani) is also a dialectal word from Guria, which means an unkempt, dirty or poor person. I'm not sure either if this has anything to do with ჩეჩენი (čečeni), but I highly doubt it. I think it is derived from the dialectal variation of adjective აჩეჩილი which means dishevelled, tousled. (infinitive: ჩეჩავს, იჩეჩება). --Reordcraeft (talk) 20:29, 28 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Reordcraeft: Thanks. I won't be able to label the term correctly, since I used a dictionary to make the entry. I don't speak Georgian.
I also saw the sense "an unkempt, dirty or poor person" in the same dictionary (or portal rather).
As you see, I've also made the entry for ჩეჩენი (čečeni).
Feel free to add the missing sense and labels on the current sense. I may withdraw the RFV I raised. Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 01:03, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, with a little bit of googling I can see that this form does exist. I will mark this as rare. Dixtosa (talk) 18:06, 21 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
