Flawed etymology

[edit]

This word couldn't possibly be the direct descendant of Old Georgian ყურდგელი: Old Georgian glottalized q' regularly remains q' in word-initial position. On the other hand, some Laz dialects do show fronting of q' to k' in word-initial position: e.g. Georgian ყუა vs. Laz კვა . Borrowing from Laz or some other variety of Zan (as attested in Megrelian) is far more likely than an irregular sound-change of q'>k' in Georgian, which is otherwise unattested.
