@Gubazes, this is how Dumézil transcribes it. Could be a hypercorrect, etymological spelling. --Vahag (talk) 18:20, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Do you have the book in your library? Because I think Dumezil used Latin letters, Greek letters, apostrophy, and accents in order to transcribe Laz phonemes. He might have used diagraphs for certain sounds too. Gubazes (talk) 19:04, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I ordered the book earlier today. I will look up his transcription system when it arrives. In any case, Shengelia transcribes as აზჲატსკი referencing this Georgian translation of Dumézil. BLS too has the form azyaťsǩi. Vahag (talk) 19:17, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Gubazes, I have now reviewed Dumézil's system. His transcription is indeed equivalent to აზჲატსკი (azyaťsǩi). You can see the relevant page here. Vahag (talk) 20:59, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think I figured out why this Russian borrowing is so unadapted. Dumézil's informant was a Laz from Batumi who knew Russian—Niyazi Ahmet Banoğlu. Vahag (talk) 13:14, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
