Despite Razorflame's enthusiasm, I have to RFV this entry. It's too complicated, has too many meanings, looks too brave for a beginner in a complicated language and no {{attention}}. Will a reference to Kannada-English dictionary for each sense be sufficient or should this go to RFD? --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 05:20, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

96 citations? Woohoo! -- Liliana 07:52, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
3 × 23 = 69. SpinningSpark 08:03, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Some etymologies have multiple senses, and each of these require separate attestation... -- Liliana 08:05, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Kannada is not an LDL so references don’t count. But do all those senses really belong to different etymologies? Many seem to be closely related semantically, and the language would have to suffer some serious phonetic shift for 23 etymons to turn out the same. — Ungoliant (Falai) 08:19, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm kinda speechless. Didn't Razorflame get blocked for a year for doing this sort of thing? Mglovesfun (talk) 19:25, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
No. There is a difference between what I did then and what I do now. My editing now is much more fine-tuned and much more focused on the correctness of the entry.

As for this entry, I cannot say which goes to which sense, but I did my best to combine the senses that had the most common similarities. If it means anything, I probably should've marked them with the {{attention}} template, but clearly I had forgotten. I'll go do that now. Razorflame 23:23, 5 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wait, so you're saying that this entry is not divided into etymology sections based on etymologies or the precedent of a Kannada dictionary, but based on your guesses at semantic connexions??? Are you kidding me? That's not good lexicography, to say the least, so I hope I'm misunderstanding. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 03:27, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
These are separated into etymologies based on the Kannada Wiktionary, which is a Kannada dictionary. Razorflame 22:10, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Razorflame, for your sake, let's hope you are right. We all know what will happen if you're not. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:34, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm well aware of this fact. Razorflame 22:10, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't know the first thing about Kannada: I can't even read a syllable of the script. But looking at the definitions on that page, it looks very much like the main meaning is based around "obstruction, prevention, handicapping". And the tumpty-seven definitions are the result of taking that concept to a thesaurus and copying down each alternate word into its own "etymology". —Catsidhe (verba, facta) 11:50, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

No, I copied the translations from the Kannada Wiktionary and did my best to combine the senses that they gave there into the ones here. Razorflame 22:10, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
You should not use Kannada Wiktionary as your primary source. What if you are repeating somebody's errors? I'm sure you do, actually. Have you heard about paper dictionaries, grammar references? Do you know how Kannada words inflect and their genders? The relations between nouns and verbs derived from the same root? Why do you make so many "etymologies"? Why do you simply copy synonyms, which you don't understand well and can't even read? Are they really full synonyms? You're really playing with your reputation. I am not supporting blocking you (at least now) but others will and it's going to be difficult to help you. I know it sounds harsh but you seem not to have the right attitude or skills. --Anatoli (обсудить/вклад) 00:29, 7 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
