Gemination

[edit]

@User:Humzah_Rouf_Phumboo, why are we retaining geminated consonants when they're not pronounced in Kashmiri? Even terms borrowed from Sanskrit are written as they are pronounced. Sinonquoi (talk) 07:29, 21 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Grierson's mistake which was propagated in this entry. I am moving the page with a redirect to व्वतर. On a side note, some Arabic borrowings like Allah, Muhammad etc. (mostly religious terms) do indeed retain geminated consonants, but I haven't seen a single instance of this being the case with Sanskrit borrowings. --Rishabhbhat (talk) 11:50, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
