This isn’t right, Ishtar in Syriac is ܐܣܬܪܐ or ܐܣܬܪܬܐ or ܐܣܬܪ̈ܬܐ along with many other synonyms but it is never ܥܫܬܪ. Shuraya (talk) 08:51, 15 April 2022 (UTC)

It’s definitely from Arabic, the loans that syriac got from Akkadian ishtar are the ones I stated above, and not just in classical Syriac but also in Syriac magic bowls. Also, Akkadian doesn’t have an 3 sound (ܥ) so I’m not sure how we would have gotten that from it. The Arabic word for Ishtar on the other hand probably was influenced by the word for the goddess astoreth عشتروت and the god Athtar عثتر hence the 3/ع/ܥ. It probably was assumed to be the Syriac word for Ishtar because of the fact that Arabic is prominent in many regions Assyrians reside in and it is harder to topics and words like these in Syriac. If you disagree with the Arabic etymology then we can leave the etymology as “foreign” instead of from Akkadian if you don’t have any sources that say it’s from Akkadian (I would put from Arabic but I don’t think there is anything on the etymology of this word in modern Assyrian) Shuraya (talk) 06:04, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
