How can this triconsonantal Semitic root have four consonants?

 @Suryaratha03. Trailing -ūm or -um is an often augment used for outgrowths. Other examples are بُلْعُوم (bulʕūm), حُلْقُوم (ḥulqūm), بُرْعُوم (burʕūm), بُرْعُم (burʕum), عُجْرُم (ʕujrum), بُرْجُمَة (burjuma), حُصْرُم (ḥuṣrum). But خُرْطُوم (ḵurṭūm) predates Arabic, as, you see, there is a Hebrew, and there is Aramaic. There are also others consonants like in عُسْلُوج (ʕuslūj), عُسْلُوج (ʕuslūj), دُمْلُوج (dumlūj), دُمْلُج (dumluj), which is not productive in recorded times. Fay Freak (talk) 20:31, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
