@Vahagn Petrosyan: Asatrian derives it from Iranian.--Calak (talk) 16:05, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Calak, I can see the discussion in his 2011 dictionary, but I don't know Persian. Can you summarize what he says yourself? --Vahag (talk) 16:49, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- @Vahagn Petrosyan: First he discusses about Persian equivalent with initial x- and takes initial k- as original form. Then he mentions MP, Arm. (< Parthian) and Vafsi equivalents and quotes reconstruction form *karičanaka- from PIE *(s)ker-. Finally derives Arm. karič from Iranian.
- For Arm. karič, I can add Central Kurdish قرژاڵ (qirjall, “
scorpioncrab”) (from qirž + -āł), beside dial. قرژْنگ (qirjing, “scorpioncrab”).--Calak (talk) 17:53, 14 August 2018 (UTC)- The etymology existed since 1970. It's a pity standard references have not noticed it yet. Are you sure the Sorani words mean ‘scorpion’? I only find ‘crab’. --Vahag (talk) 19:29, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry. Those mean "crab".--Calak (talk) 19:40, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
