@Vahagn Petrosyan: There is another կալան in Armenian means "sheath"; please add it. Thank you.--Calak (talk) 17:19, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Calak: I was wondering who would request ‘sea otter’ in Armenian :) See now կալան (kalan) and kalan. --Vahag (talk) 19:27, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Vahagn Petrosyan: I've created Russian кала́н (kalán). Do you have some info on its etymology? ChignonПучок 22:15, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Chignon, according to Russian Wikipedia, from Koryak. But I do not have serious sources on this. --Vahag (talk) 18:12, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Vahagn Petrosyan: I think that Kurdish kalan, kêlan is inherited. I have two sources which derives it from OIr. *karta-dāna [from karta- "knife" + -dāna "place"]; check Kurdish-English dictionary by MICHAEL L CHYET, p 295. For similar compound in Iranian languages compare Pashto čax̌tun "scabbard" from OIr. *kartya-stāna [from kartya- "knife" + -stāna "place"] (I don't know Oss. кӕрддзӕм is related or not). Finally Hawramî kêlana "scabbard" can't be from Armenian.--Calak (talk) 21:22, 1 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Calak, probably. Now I think the Armenian itself may be an Iranian borrowing. --Vahag (talk) 18:11, 4 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
