@Bezimenen: Hi. Do you know if *pertiti is related to *perti? Canonicalization (talk) 10:39, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Canonicalization: Certainly, they resemble each other morphologically. There is no consensus, though, how exactly *pertiti is related to *perti. The expected pre-Slavic *-éyeti causative demands O-grade, as in *portiti (to propel). In the case of Slavic, thouse, E-grades (or 0-grades) are also possible. I suppose that originally *pertiti was an intensive counter-part of *perti with the meaning to order, to command forward (such meaning is attested in Balkan OCS), which later evolved into the modern to forbid, to oppose. PS I created the proto-Slavic page. For the sake of security, I explained *pertiti as a derivative of the unattested participle *pertъ, because (as said above) the expected causative of *perti is *portiti (with O-grade). The discussed E-grade and the related 0-grade *pъrtiti cannot be derived directly from *perti via normal morphological means. Bezimenen (talk) 11:39, 20 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
