@Vahagn Petrosyan: then where is the word from? its definitely derived from the term ტფილისი (ṭpilisi) and not თბილისი (tbilisi) and /tʼpʰilisi/ can easily become [tifliis] in a foreign language, likely through Persian or Turkish than directly to Russian. I don't doubt the ultimate origin from Old Georgian, but you implied direct borrowing from it into Russian, which is impossible. Possibly it is Old Georgian > Arabic (to account for f) > Persian > Russian. Someone should study the chronology of attestations. Vahag (talk) 10:36, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

There are many instances of Persian /p/ becoming /f/ due to Arabic influence (tho that generally happens word-initially, or maybe it entered Persian via a dialectal (and in consequence unattested) form where the /pʰ/ sound became /f/ Rodrigo5260 (talk) 14:28, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
