Hoof - synonyms

[edit]

Does Greek have a different word for the hooves of animals in other families such as sheep or cows? If so they should be in the see also section. — Hippietrail 01:55, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

οπλή (f) is the general term for hooves. Bah, I got told there is no "See Also" in ele. where do they go? Or you could just put them in I guess. ArielGlenn 03:05, 23 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hoof (is this correct)

[edit]

Where did hoof came from? You may say that οπλή (hoof) is a "rough" synonym to δάχτυλο (finger) but not to νύχι which is part of hoof. --Xoristzatziki 05:09, 14 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

My en:el dictionaries do not mention hoof, and I was going to remove that gloss. But then I looked at Πύλη which gives
  • 2α. η οπλή στα ιπποειδή. β. κεράτινη ουσία με μυτερό και γαμ ψό σχήμα: β1. σε ορισμένα θηλαστικά: H γάτα βγάζει τα νύχια της. β2. στα πτηνά: H κότα ξύνει με τα νύχια
