Community vs. camp

[edit]

@Biolongvistul:: șatră does refer to the Roma community itself, not necessarily to a camp.

Like in the lyrics of the song: "Pe ulița armenească / trece-o șatră țigănească" // "On the Armenian street / A gypsy community is passing by". Bogdan (talk) 21:13, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

That’s a metonymy. In continuation of the former main sense of ‘military camp’, I say the base definition is in reference to the physical carts and tents of dwelling, not their inhabitants.
As the DLR also has it: Cort al țiganilor nomazi; p. ext. grup de corturi care alcătuiesc locuințele unei comunități țigănești nomade. [] P. ext. Comunitate de țigani nomazi. ―Biolongvistul (talk) 21:28, 31 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Then perhaps we should include them both. Bogdan (talk) 19:42, 1 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
