[edit]Back formation from Latin seraphim, also seraphin, a plural, from Hebrew שְׂרָפִים (s'rafím), plural of שָׂרָף (saráf) of which the meaning is uncertain; perhaps related to the root Hebrew שרף (“to burn”).
