[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested as Schitekoven in 1501. Etymology uncertain. Perhaps derived from Old Dutch *Scite (a personal name) and the dative plural form of hof (“farmstead, homestead”). However, there are no known cognates of the name *Scite in Limburg. Compare Schettens.
