Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Manipuri ꯁꯅꯥꯃꯍꯤ (sanaamahee). Meitei word Sana is a portmanteau of Salailen and "Nawa" ("child" in Meitei), thereby meaning "Salailen's child (Nawa)". Sanamahi is a combination of "Sana" and "Mahi" ("liquid" in Meitei), thereby meaning "child (Nawa) developed by the liquid (Mahi) of Salailen".
