[edit]From Latin Samothrācē, from Ancient Greek Σαμοθρᾴκη (Samothrā́ikē, “Samian Thrace”), from Σᾰ́μος (Sámos, “Samos”) + Θρᾴκη (Thrā́ikē, “Thrace”), from the island's early Greek colonizers and the general ancient territory in which it lay.
