[edit]From Middle High German riuse, from Old High German rūsa, riusa (10th century), of uncertain origin; perhaps the s represents grammatischer Wechsel of r and the word is a jōn- stem from the root of Rohr (“reed”).[1]
Cognate with Swedish ryssja, Danish ruse, Norwegian Bokmål ruse.
