sœlis

[edit]

@Sokkjo, There is also the Old Norse *sœlis, found in Old Norse andsœlis (contrary to the sun's path, counterclockwise, adverb), Old Norse (v)rangsœlis (contrary to the sun, preposition). Does the ending -is suggest that it was once neuter or perhaps masculine, the -is being from the genitive case ? Leasnam (talk) 00:45, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Leasnam: Old Norse *sœlis looks like it's from *sōl +‎ *-ją. -- Sokkjō 01:11, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
This is correct. -sǿlis is transparently the genitive of *sǿli < *sōliją. ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌProto-NorsingAsk me anything 17:22, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
