sœlis
[edit]@Sokkjo, There is also the Old Norse *sœlis, found in Old Norse andsœlis (“contrary to the sun's path, counterclockwise”, adverb), Old Norse (v)rangsœlis (“contrary to the sun”, preposition). Does the ending -is suggest that it was once neuter or perhaps masculine, the -is being from the genitive case ? Leasnam (talk) 00:45, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Leasnam: Old Norse *sœlis looks like it's from *sōl + *-ją. -- Sokkjō 01:11, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
- This is correct. -sǿlis is transparently the genitive of *sǿli < *sōliją. ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌ ᛭ Proto-Norsing ᛭ Ask me anything 17:22, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
