Why is the vowel of the first syllable an *e and not an *ö? And on the case of -m-

I understand that rounding due to /m/ would round *e to *ö, but aside from EDAL, none of the given sources reconstruct it as *kemürgen?

Aside from that, why is it reconstructed with a -m- and not a -b-? It seems like the existence of both -w- and -m- in descendants suggests an original *b (cf. yemet ~ ewet). The note about *köpür- influencing it makes no sense, its consonant doesn't evolve to -w-. Yorınçga573 (talk) 18:24, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

If the correct form was *kebürgen, the Oghuz forms (Especially Turkish) would reflect different I think. I assume a assimilation such *kemürgen > *kebürgen > **ke/ö)würgen but not sure. If the sources you have gives different reconstructs or you are sure if the word is something like *kebürgen then you can move it. Ardahan Karabağ (talk) 14:42, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Alright, the correct form i was referring to was *köbürgen btw, only EDAL gives *kemürgen with an *-e- Yorınçga573 (talk) 14:54, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Actually I'm not going to move it, Rasanen has some forms with -e- that I should search about first, if these forms truly exist the -e- may be primary.
