Ablaut pattern

[edit]

@Victar, we normally consider this to have leveled the nominative to the zero-grade since the since accented zero-grades are so rare. —JohnC5 16:10, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

@JohnC5: Thanks, I wasn't sure, based on references. What are your thoughts on the reconstruction steps of Proto-Indo-Iranian: *gšítis? I think even Cheung is unsure about the outcome of *dʰgʷʰ- in PIr, based on his reconstruction of *gžar. Interestingly, the Latin form also experienced a metastasization. --Victar (talk) 18:28, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
This is a w:Thorn cluster. Any sequence of dental + velar (in that order) gets metathesized and the dental is assibilated in some fashion. —CodeCat 18:31, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I was asking @JohnC5 for his knowledge of PIr., where it's much more complicated than Italic. --Victar (talk) 18:49, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@JohnC5 I added an entry for *dʰg⁽ʷ⁾ʰ in the consonant clusters of the PIR table. Could you have a look when you have a sec? --Victar (talk) 20:43, 3 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Victar: Sorry, I've been at a juggling convention all day. I'll take a look around. —JohnC5 03:06, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

For Indo-Iranian I think the reflexes of *dʰéǵʰōm might be of interest as well. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 00:21, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

The PII reconstruction might be missing a RUKI, my friend. - Madhav P. (talk) 01:00, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Aryamanarora: You can see I already added it to the table. =) Not too many examples of these clusters. --Victar (talk) 01:14, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
@माधवपंडित: Added. @Victar: Ah, my bad. I'll be looking for more. —Aryaman (मुझसे बात करो) 01:23, 4 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
