Impersonal use

[edit]

@Gudamunduz Why do you think the impersonal use existed? If it existed, why do you think it's with dative? In Old Norse it's with accusative. —Caoimhin ceallach (talk) 10:10, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

For this one I must admit I am not truly certain; wēnan is not impersonal in Old English unlike in Old Norse or other Old English verbs meaning "to believe, to have an opinion" - as to why dative, most of the impersonal verbs I've seen (such as in Gothic) use dative, and not accusative, with Old Norse being a rarity in this regard. It looks like we can't assume impersonal use. For that we need evidence. —Caoimhin ceallach (talk) 16:50, 29 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
