Proto-Germanic *rahnijaną is shown as being derived from Proto-Indo-European *Hrek- (to decide, to lead), with the same definition. However it seems this might be derived from *rahną +‎ *-janą instead. Judging from the descendants, it might also instead be defined as "to rob, steal" or something along these lines. Checking online for sources for this information only pull up https://paradigms.langeslag.org/1, which lists the verb as deriving from Proto-Germanic *rahną with the definition "to rob." — This unsigned comment was added by Elvesflame (talkcontribs) at 22:52, 14 May 2020.

@Elvesflame: *rahną +‎ *-janą sounds perfectly reasonable. I actually totally disagree with Kroonen's etymology, though. It seems to be completely based on a connection to Gothic 𐍂𐌰𐌷𐌽𐌾𐌰𐌽 (rahnjan, to reckon, estimate), but that's really semantically far-fetched. @Mnemosientje, Leasnam, Mahagaja --{{victar|talk}} 08:46, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
