Issues with reconstruction

[edit]

Aside from the issues raised on the talk page here, from the information available it simply isn't possible to reconstruct this as a masculine a-stem with any level of certainty. All we can ascertain from the Old Norse is it's an indefinite genitive plural in -a, from which we could also reconstruct a neuter a-stem, consonant stem, masculine an-stem, i-stem, u-stem, or ō-stem. The given reconstruction isn't wrong per se, but I struggle to accept it as correct. Rather than throw out the whole page, perhaps the uncertainty could be addressed by removing the ending à la *swait-. Wiljahelmaz (talk) 03:00, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
