Cognates

[edit]

@UtherPendrogn Does Matasović give any derivatives from the root, outside Celtic? I can't think of any and we don't seem to have any other entries that link to it. —CodeCat 16:30, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@CodeCat Indeed he does. Cognates include तुज् (tuj) and στύγει (stúgei). He does however write it down as (s)tewg, so the s isn't for sure. UtherPendrogn (talk) 16:38, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. The s- is a specific PIE phenomenon called S-mobile. Nobody knows why it happens yet. —CodeCat 17:02, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
No problem. And I'll read upon S-mobile. Sounds interesting! UtherPendrogn (talk) 17:09, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
So is this *(s)tewg-, which we already have an entry for? Or something else? —CodeCat 17:11, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
That is the correct form, I didn't think a hypopethical (s) would be allowed. I've rectified it and will add relevant descendants. UtherPendrogn (talk) 17:14, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
