Re Etymology. The article on Proto-Indo-European *dʰewh₂- does not say “to finish, come full circle”, but rather “smoke; mist, haze”, which is totally different. --Caoimhin (talk) 20:40, 24 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Mahagaja Hello. Does this mean down is a doublet of town? --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 23:09, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Leasnam also. --Per utramque cavernam (talk) 23:11, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Correct. down (i.e. the adv. and "hill") and town are doublets; triplets if you include dune Leasnam (talk) 23:14, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Some sources consider PGmc *dūnaz, *dūnǭ (sanddune) to be directly from PIE *dhewh2-, though. Leasnam (talk) 23:20, 18 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Homophones are not rare among PIE roots. It could come from a root *dʰewh₂- but not the one that measn "smoke, mist, haze". —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 12:04, 19 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
